When it comes to buying a house, there’s the golden rule: Location. Location. Location. The same applies when you’re looking to book a hotel.
Hôtel Original is located in the heart of historic Paris, it is perfectly situated on the edges of the city’s most famous Jewish neighbourhood, in Le Marais — also known as Le Pletzl (Yiddish for Little Place).
This delightful 4 Star boutique hotel is tucked away between Place des Vosges and Place de la Bastille. Dating back to the 19th century, Hôtel Original has recently been restyled by the French fashion designer Stella Cadente. The talented Cadente’s wonderfully spirited designs are trendy and charming in equal measure, inviting visitors to enter an intimate and unique world of fairy tales and visual poetry.
Each boudoir is a display of extravagance and elegance, boasting one-of-a-kind interiors where bathrooms feature shimmering mosaics and bedrooms have a chic and futuristic feel… I have it on very good authority that the Joker Room is a ‘gateway’ to fun and playfulness.
What the guests say:
“A weekend in Wonderland….
We were in Paris for the weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday and Hôtel Original really made our trip a memorable one.
The staff where very attentive, knowledgeable and extremely friendly… The decor at the hotel really wowed us, it was a great place to celebrate a birthday. We stayed in one of the Wonderland rooms for four persons which were beautifully decorated, really quirky. There really is attention to detail and the room was filled with lots of extra touches based on the Alice and Wonderland theme…
…The location in Le Marais was perfect for us, right on top of the Bastille metro station and close to lots of bars.
I would highly recommend Hôtel Original, especially if you’re looking for something a bit different. I will definitely stay again!”
“Gold star treatment
There was nothing to fault with Hôtel Original from its excellent location to the extremely friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the ‘Gold’ room which was spacious and had a cool design. For a Paris room it was one of the biggest we have stayed in and the bed was large and comfortable, and despite being in a busy street there was no noise. Great power shower and plenty of storage space. Everything was spot on with the hotel and we will certainly return for our next trip to Paris.”
“Fabulous boutique hotel…
…This hotel is, is a wonderful place to call home when travelling to Paris for a few days. It is clean, the rooms are pleasant, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the location and price can’t be beat.
You are a few steps from the Bastille Metro which has many lines running through it. You are 1 block from Places des Voges and La Marais which is full of fantastic shops and restaurants.
You are also 1 block from Au Levain du Marais — an unpretentious wonderful bakery run by a cranky old lady. The pastries are amazing! There is always a line and a few surveys have ranked it the best croissant in the city. But I digress, I highly recommend Hotel Original Paris if you want a boutique hotel with minimal services at a great price.”

Known throughout Paris as the city’s LGBT hotspot, Le Marais — or Gay Paris — is brimming with gay-friendly bars and clubs. The Cox Cafe and Bar on Rue des Archives is a neighbourhood favourite (get there early if you want to snag a seat). Le Feeling on 35 Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie, is a low-key gay and lesbian hangout best visited in summer, when the long bar opens onto the street.
Other places of interest are the Musée d’Art etd’Histoire du Judaïsme (Museum of Jewish Art & History), Le Mémorial de la Shoah (The Holocaust Memorial), Le Mémorial des martyrs de la Déportation (Memorial of the deported Martyrs) and don’t miss out on the Jewish restaurants, bookshops, boulangeries and charcuteries on Rue des Rosiers.
